“University of Bristol embraces digital microscopy”

The University of Bristol has adopted SlidePath’s Digital Slidebox for undergraduate training. More students and fewer resources make life a challenge for histology educators. Increasingly the solution for many Universities is digital microscopy, to complement or replace traditional microscopy based practicals. To facilitate driving a modern curriculum, one of the top 10 ranking UK universities, the University of Bristol, has fully migrated to Digital Slidebox to deliver its Histology and Dentistry coursework. With up to 90 students and limited specialist teaching resources, practical classes were difficult and required several tutors. Digital Slidebox has enabled the University to cost effectively deploy 10 Gigapixel digital slides via the internet, whilst providing advanced functionality to support student learning. Now a single tutor can manage tutorials, with coursework being completed at a much faster pace.

Dr. Phil Langton, project coordinator at Bristol University, says “What attracted us to SlidePath and their Digital Slidebox application was their understanding of higher education and their focus on functions that have real educational value. SlidePath have consistently delivered on expectation in a timely manner and have provided exemplary service to date”. Dr. Donal O'Shea, Chief Executive of SlidePath, says "This is an important development for SlidePath and underpins our strategy to provide global leadership in the field of digital slides for e-learning applications. It is wonderful to work with a partner who fully appreciates the capabilities of this new medium to deliver significant pedagogical benefit to histology training".

Digital SlideBox is the world’s best software package for creating online histology labs. Developed with leading academic institutes, it is the only solution created by educators, for educators. Its easy to use interface provides everything needed to produce high value, digital slide based teaching material. What’s more, it is the only system that is compatible with all major digital slide formats including Aperio, Hamamatsu, Zeiss, Olympus, Nikon and Bacus.
