“Distiller OpTMA successfully used to manage large breast cancer study”

The University of Lund is one of the leading research institutes in Scandinavia and at the Centre for Molecular Pathology Professor Landberg’s research team use SlidePath’s Distiller OpTMA technology to manage a large breast cancer study involving over 1400 patients. Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women world-wide and there is a crucial need to develop more targeted therapies and marker systems for this disease. SlidePath’s software can help to increase efficiency in biomarker discovery and validation projects.

Distiller’s in-built flexibility enables the integration of patient information, follow-up data, digital slides and Tissue Microarray scoring into one fully searchable database. OpTMA is a highthroughput workflow for the analysis of Tissue Microarrays. OpTMA’s automatic core navigation eliminates the difficulty of tracking core position in traditional TMA templates and ensures that the correct information is associated with the correct core. Professor Landberg says “With the Distiller program we are able to keep track of large databases linked to valuable tissue micro array material”.

Distiller is the most powerful web based data collection and management tool. Its comprehensive user and data management features facilitate online real-time collaboration amongst disparate research groups. Distiller’s additional OpTMA module plug-in removes the work involved in analysing Tissue Microarrays, automating the entire process of dearraying and associating tissue cores with clinical data. Together, Distiller OpTMA provides a complete on-line workflow for the analysis of Tissue Microarrays and management of associated information.
