Digital SlideBox User Guidelines

The following provides a complete guide to the recommended hardware and software requirements for using SlidePath’s Digital Slidebox digital slide management software.

IT Infrastructure

Internet Bandwidth:
The amount of data that can be sent over a network connection in a given period of time. The greater the bandwidth, the more data that can be transmitted.

Recommended bandwidth: 1Mbps or higher

To accurately assess your bandwidth, please use the speed test Here
Click on the button "Click to start MySpeed". The result of interest is your download speed

Hardware

PC processor:
The ‘brain’ of the computer, the better the processor, the faster the computer can perform tasks

Recommended processor: Pentium IV (or equivalent)

Memory:
Enables a computer to store (temporarily) data and programs. The more memory a computer has, the more programs it can run simultaneously, and the more data that can be held for faster access.

Recommended: 512Mb RAM (or higher)

Monitor size:
The better quality the monitor, the greater image definition and clarity.

Recommended: 19” (or higher) flat panel monitor

Software

Operating System (OS):
A computer program that controls the components of a computer system and facilitates the operation of applications.

Supported OS: Windows 98, 2000, NT, XP, Mac OS X

Internet browser:
A software application that allows the user to view pages on the World Wide Web

Supported Browsers: Internet Explorer (5 or higher), Firefox, Netscape, Opera, Safari

Display Settings

Screen resolution:
The number of pixels (dots) displayed onscreen. The more pixels, the greater the resolution. Studies have shown that a screen resolution setting of 1600x1200 relates to a single microscope field of view. Not all monitors support this resolution, you will generally require a larger monitor to allow this settings (19" or higher).

Recommended: 1600x1200 or higher

Colour Depth:
The number of bits of colour information for each pixel. The more bits, the more colours that can be displayed

Recommended: 24 bit

(Note: Screen resolution and colour depth can be changed in Start>>Control Panel>>Display>> Settings)
